With Autoderm, we have a successful collaboration with iPlato to integrate into their app, myGP. The app enables 3 million UK citizens to handle their health, book GP appointments, get NHS online prescriptions, access medical records, track their weight, and check any skin ailments with Autoderm.

Scale
Currently, the most used feature is the Autoderm skin scanner, which enables patients to obtain skin answers in a single second and to read more about their conditions. In total, 370,000 images have been processed by our AI infrastructure over the past months, allowing myGP users to make better decisions in their healthcare pathways: being referred quicker to a doctor, or directly taking over-the-counter medication at a pharmacy.
Detection
In the past month, we detected an estimated lower bound of 80 malignant melanomas from app users. This estimation was performed by taking the total amount of identified images and an estimate of the likely images sent by unique users. At Autoderm, we don't record personal data and are therefore not aware of the exact uniqueness of users: we performed an estimate by computing image similarity for the different conditions, to approximate the total number of unique users flagged as having malignant melanomas.
Furthermore, this number is a lower-bound estimate not only for image-case uniqueness, but also for the confidence interval of the predictions: we only counted in this 5% bound the predictions with a confidence score of 80% in the posterior tailed distribution. Our insights show that this number is much higher if we broaden these rules, as for a considerable amount of cases the patient would require a biopsy for a definitive result.
Why it matters
This shows that using AI for early skin condition screening is an effective approach to broadening access to care, as users can get answers in a second instead of months. It is important to note that this is no substitute for a doctor or a dermatologist, but it allows for faster and more efficient routing in the care process through a referral system. Autoderm is a class-1 CE marked medical device in the EU and holds the MDHR certification in the UK, allowing it to be used in a medical setting. In the USA, we secured the FDA breakthrough device designation and are awaiting further clinical trials.
Autoderm scans for 73 different conditions, from inflammatory to malignant, including genital concerns, and we keep getting faster, more accurate, and expanding the set of supported diseases.
